Ways to Cut Down on Your Wedding Cost

Cutting down on your wedding cost Wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event and so some people do not mind spending a little extra on this special day. But, if you’ve got a tight budget and do not want your wedding cost to run out of control, here’s what you need to keep in mind…

  • Choose the Right Season
If you haven’t yet decided the wedding date, plan for an off season wedding between November – April. This way you’ll be able to find better deals on virtually every wedding service that will minimize your cost to a great extent.

  • Limit Your Guest List
Whether you get married in a hotel or a resort, they charge per person. This means every person is an expense to you, so you can reduce that expenditure by pairing down the number of mouths. Don’t go about happily inviting people you’ve hardly known over the years or it’ll be painful for you to clear the bill at the end of the day.

  • Send Some Invites Via Mail
Consider wedding invitations that will only require one standard stamp and a standard envelope. Include the reception information on the wedding invitation instead of having a separate card for it. If your relatives/friends are internet savvy, you could send a wedding invitation via e-ail. You’ll find a variety of cards on the internet for free, where you can actually design your own wedding invitation. Isn’t that cool?

  • Stick to One Location
Some people prefer two different locations – one for the day ceremony and the other for the reception. If you stick to the same location for your reception you could negotiate with the hotel manager. Plus, there will be no need for an expensive car to take you to the second location. Likewise, if you’re having a civil ceremony, many venues have a hall, where you could hold the reception.

  • Keep it Simple
Flowers and decor are no less expensive these days. They all add up to your expenditure. So, go easy on the décor. Also, make sure you use flowers that are in season, as they’re mostly cheaper. You could also consider the wedding to take place in a lawn to save on the decor cost. This way, you’ll only have to get the stage decorated.

  • Wedding Attire
Your wedding attire is going to be a hot topic of discussion only on your D-day and then it’s going to sit there in your wardrobe for years. So, it’s best to rent a gown or buy a wedding saree / lehenga well in advance during summer or monsoon sale to reduce the wedding cost.

  • Save Up on the Photo and Video Cost
Most couples prefer a professional photographer/videographer for their wedding. However, if you are a risk taker, you could consider hiring an amateur for your wedding, of course after seeing some of his work or a friend who might volunteer to be the photographer and possess a decent camera. This will make a big difference in your budget.

  • Planning Your Honeymoon
Some travel companies offer some good deals for honeymoon couples. You can do some research months before your wedding on the internet. Also, if possible tell you close friends and cousins to contribute cash as your wedding gift, so that you could use that for your honeymoon. This way, people will be contributing to your honeymoon costs.
