Budget your marriage

Every couple wants their wedding to be perfect. It is common occurrence that
for such an important event in one's life no expense is spared to ensure that the wedding itself goes off well without any hitch and is appreciated among friends and relatives. While one may not mind a little bit of cost escalation but it may be worthwhile to undertake a budgeting exercise.
Before spending, one needs to take a careful look at the financial planning and at how much attention should be given to each aspect of the wedding. As a starting point one can list down the various avenues of expenditure.
E.g. Pre-wedding ceremonies, wedding, post-wedding functions, trousseau etc and earmark the percentage of expenses for each of them.

Bridal Trousseau- 25%
Jewellery- 20%
Other expenses- 10%
Of course, these percentages are purely indicative and will differ on case to case basis depending on likes, dislikes and priorities.
The most important cost factor in the pre-wedding and wedding ceremonies is the
venue and catering cost. So once you decide on the size and number of functions, it is important to choose a venue or caterer that will be most cost effective. Other expenses like the decor, florists, photography / videography, entertainment, invites, and souvenirs can also be budgeted accordingly. Once you have all the estimates and expenses on paper all the bookings can be done. Remember, though budgeting is time consuming it is worth the effort and last minute surprises will not creep up and cause stress.
