Green Wedding Attire

Eco-friendly wedding jewellery:
Opt for lab created diamonds instead of dubious stones especially 'blood diamonds'. As gold and diamond mining can release toxins into the environment, consider silver instead as it is more eco-friendly. Even wooden rings can be intricately carved and beautifully designed.

Shaheen Abbas You may also reuse your mother's wedding jewellery or get it exchanged for a chic set. Shaheen Abbas, Jewellery Designer of Flower Child advices, "Traditionally jewellery is passed down through the generations. Just in case you feel that your mother's set is not suiting your times you may go to the same motiwala your mother purchased her wedding jewellery from and in most cases he should readily exchange it for a new set."

Eco-friendly footwear:
There are alternatives for leather as far as footwear is concerned. Payal Kothari- Footwear Designer for VERUSCHKA says, "We can help by using natural biodegradable or recycled fibres for footwear whenever possible. Going forward I will try and make my shoe bags out of natural fibres to decrease waste and currently I don't use any plastic bags for any kind of packaging.

Eco-friendly makeup:
Proprietor of Nirmal Herbals, naturopath and beauty therapist, Nirmala Shetty advices, "I don't really recommend plenty of chemical makeup for your wedding. Whatever we apply on our body enters the blood stream through our pores. So one should take care of what is being applied to the skin and hair as after all we don't want harmful chemicals to enter our blood stream."

Cautioning against harmful chemical fairness creams Nirmala says, "A natural bleach can be made from almond paste with milk and curd; or from a mixture of green gram, oats, almonds and wild turmeric. Coconut milk also helps to brighten the skin."

"Apple and papaya mixed with honey can be used to scrub the body. Pre-bridal beauty packs and cosmetics should be made from herbs, fruits and lentils," concludes Nirmala.

So, go green for you wedding - outfit, jewellery, make up and all!
