7 tips for selecting & giving the perfect wedding gift

  1. From the groom's side
Most gifts from the groom's side are invariably for the bride. Some may be for the bride's siblings. The bride is almost always gifted clothes and jewellery. A great way to ensure that the bride actually likes and uses what she receives is to take her shopping along with you. If the bride and groom stay in different cities then it might be a good idea to give the bride cash and ask her to do her own shopping. Ofcourse, in some cases jewellery may be passed down from the elder women in the family in which case it is perfectly acceptable to gift it to the bride as it is.

  2. Packaging is vital
Packaging is vital In a world where slick advertising promos rule the retail business the same mantra applies to pretty much everything. The package must look good on the outside no matter what lies inside!
Spend a few extra bucks on gift wrapping and packaging all the gifts. There are special wedding gift wrappers who provide gift wrapping services for a fee. You can find wedding gift packing services starting from as low as 1000/- rupees for the entire trousseau and going up to more than 1 lac rupees!

  3. 'Giving' the gift
When you present the gift is also an important factor to consider. Generally close family and friends prefer to present the gift at home instead of carrying it to the wedding or reception venue. This is a good idea since expensive gifts can often be misplaced in the wedding revelry.
If a bridal shower or bachelor party is being organised then it is customary to give gifts during this party.

So while most people will say 'it's the thought that counts', the fact remains that the gift matters just as much! Use the above tips to make sure that the gifts you give are always well received and appreciated.
