Don't Let Jet Lag Spoil Your Honeymoon

Don't Let Jet Lag Spoil Your Honeymoon With more and more newlyweds taking off to international shores for their honeymoon, the problem of how to avoid jet lag has become a common one. Here's what you can do to ensure that you don't look like something the cat dragged in after your long flight!

Tips On Avoiding Jet lag
  1. Drink up: On water, that is. At only 15%, the humidity in the aircrafts is very low. In fact, some of the world's driest deserts have humidity levels of about 16%, so you can just imagine how dry the air inside an airplane can be. With such low humidity levels, you start losing moisture from your skin even as your plane is taking off. It is no wonder that by the time you reach your destination you are completely dehydrated, tired and feeling terribly jet lagged.

The good news is that you can easily avoid this by drinking a glass of water (other liquids don't count) every hour while on the flight. And believe me; the dry air inside the airplane will make it very easy for you to have so much water.

  2. Adjust the time on your watch: Most of you probably reset your watches to your destination time when you arrive there. However, your internal clock is still running according to the time at the place you're coming from. Therefore, to reset your internal clock and avoid jet lag, you need to reset your watch to your destination time as soon as you board the aircraft.

This way, you'll know exactly what time it is at your destination and can thus make your body behave accordingly. (Sleep if it is night at your destination or try and stay awake a few hours longer if it is still daytime there).

  3. Get your beauty sleep: Sleep deprivation is another leading cause of jet lag. You thus need to catch some ZZZs if you are on a long distance flight. While some people have no trouble sleeping on an airplane, others find it impossible to catch some shut-eye no matter how hard they try. If you belong to the latter category of fliers, try and carry an eye mask and ear plugs and see if these make a difference.

Even if you cannot actually fall asleep (the excitement of a honeymoon can do that to the best of us!), do try and get some rest. Keeping your eyes closed and resting gives you about 70% - 75% of the benefits of sleep and goes a long way towards reducing the horrible effects of jet lag.

  4. Be on the go: It is very important to keep moving while on long flights. Yes, we know you can't get too far on an aircraft, but regular trips up and down the aisle are extremely important (if you do drink up on water like we asked you to, your frequent trips to the loo should suffice). In addition to avoiding jet lag, this will also help to keep blood clots at bay.

In addition to the above, you also need to ensure that you wear comfortable cotton clothes on the flight, eat moderately, drink alcohol even more so and take care of your skin (wash your face a few times and use moisturizer) so that you do not look or feel jet lagged after your long flight and are ready to make the most of your honeymoon from the second you arrive!
