Jaipur - Jewel in the Desert!

Jaipur the vibrant capital of Rajasthan is popularly known as the pink city, it has derived such name because of the pink - coloured buildings in the old city of Jaipur. Maharaja Sawai Jaisingh built the pink city in 1728. Jaipur sits on a dry lakebed in arid landscape, surrounded by barren hills surmounted by forts and crenellated walls. This buzzing city is certainly a place of wild contrasts and a feast for the eyes.
Jaipur takes the credit of being the "Jewel in the desert", because of its vibrant and colourful lifestyle enjoyed by its local people even in dry and arid climate of Rajasthan. Jaipur is a shopper's paradise since it presents lovely and intricately done handicrafts to its delightful visitors.
Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal or 'Palace of winds' is Jaipur's landmark. Constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh. This 5-storeyed building, which overlooks the main street of bustling city, is a stunning example of Rajput artistry. City palace complex occupies a large area and is definitely worth a visit. The palace is a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture.
This complex houses Mubarak Mahal, Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II museum, and the most attractive Diwan-e-am, with its intricate decorations and manuscripts in Persian and Sanskrit, Diwan-e-khaas, the marble paved gallery and exquisite peacock gate in the Chandra Mahal courtyard signifies a warm welcome.
Jantar Mantar
Maharaja Jai Singh began this observatory in 1728.The most striking instrument is the sundial with its 27m high gnomon.
Iswari Minar Swaraga Sal
This heaven-piercing minaret near Tripolia gate was build to overlook the city.
Amber Fort
Amber the ancient capital of Jaipur is a superb example of Rajput architecture. Situated atop the hill, and you can enjoy the elephant ride up the hill to admire the massive gateways, courts, stairways and pillared pavilion's and palaces.
Sheesh Mahal
Palace of mirrors is of special interest where the walls are inlaid with exquisite mirror motifs that dance to the flame of one single candle.
Jaigarh Fort
Unique aspect of this fort is that it was never captured and hence it has remained intact throughout these many centuries.
Sangarner
The town is famous for its handmade paper and block printing.
