Honeymooning In Exotic Rio!

The monument of the Christ Redeemer was on our agenda even before it was included in the new Seven Wonders list, but its inclusion made our visit that much more special and our honeymoon that much more exciting. Rio truly must be the only city in the world where honeymooners can be captivated by its charm, soak up the romance, revel in the unbeatable vivacity of the place and top off their glorious honeymoon with a wonder of the world thrown in for good measure!
Nighttimes in Rio are even more glorious than the days, even though it may seem impossible. The culture of Brazilians is much like ours as far as wining and dining is concerned. Dinner means a meal between 9 and 10 pm and the partying truly begins after that. 'There's music in the air' has to be a phrase that was coined for Rio and rocking to the Samba beats can become very addictive indeed.
It may sound very clichéd but our honeymoon turned out to be the stuff dreams are made of. If my husband and I weren't already crazily in love with each other, Rio would surely make us fall head over heels!
Other attractions in Rio:
- Ipanema: Awesome beach, good place for some funky shopping and great eating. On Sundays, you can visit the hippie flea market in Praça General Osório and browse through some authentic handicrafts and trendy clothes to pick up some souvenirs for back home.
- Carnival: What Goan Festival is to Goa, Carnival is to Rio. The Samba parades will definitely leave you wanting more!
- Sugar Loaf Mountain: Head here for a bird's eye view of the remarkable city. Watch the buzzing city of Rio sandwiched between the heavenly beaches spread on one side and the towering mountains on the other.
Getting there: Rio is the capital city of Rio de Janeiro state in Brazil, and is well connected internationally.
When to go: Any time is a good time to head to Rio. However, if you want to avoid the rainy months, do not travel between October and January. New Years is an exciting time to travel to Rio. February can be quite crazy what with the Carnival and all.
