Honeymooning In Exotic Rio!
|
Shaaditimes travels to exotic Rio with one of our readers on her honeymoon! Here's a first hand honeymooner's diary of their experience of Brazil.
My newly married husband and I had such diverse expectations from our honeymoon that at one point I thought we'd have to go our separate ways! He wanted to go to an exotic locale, someplace 'wild and wonderful' as he put it. I was hell bent on having a romantic beach honeymoon.
Thankfully our Internet search led us to discover exotic Rio and we had a honeymoon that was everything we hoped for, and how!
We landed in the city of Rio and at first it seemed like any other beach destination, not unlike our very own Goa. Boy, was I wrong! Rio is uniquely Rio and leaves a longing in your heart; long after the honeymoon is over.
We found ourselves at the world's most famous Copacabana Beach practically the minute we were settled into our comfortable hotel. I must admit that I was curious to see why Copacabana beach enjoys this distinction and now I know! The sand is indeed golden, the waters are in fact the loveliest colour of turquoise you have seen, and I can't say enough about the spectacular sunsets at the beach. Each and every romantic bone in my body was at peace. Sigh!
We also went to Abrico Beach and only on reaching there did I realize why my husband was so insistent we go there. It is the first legalized nude beach in Rio! Although I was pretty scandalized (what with my good girl Indian sensibilities and all that), my husband had no such qualms about skin shows and enjoyed himself thoroughly.
We soon discovered that Rio is a lot more than a romantic beach city. While beaches dot one side of the city, the other has magnificent mountains and hills that make you feel like you're in a different place altogether. The most famous of these is the Corcovado Hill; the top of which houses the now renowned Wonder of the World, the statue of Christ The Redeemer.
A short ride on the Corcovado Train takes you up the hill to the Christ Redeemer statue. At over 100 feet tall, the statue is a breathtaking sight. We visited the monument in the evening and even prayed at the chapel, which is at the base of the statue. In spite of Christianity not being our religion, we found an immense sense of peace and spirituality.
