Climbing The Great Wall Of China
|
Many such traditions and stories are associated with the Great Wall, which made my climb all that more fascinating. I now know why a Chinese Royal once said, "He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man".
How To Get There: Beijing is the closest city to the sections of the Great Wall at Badaling and Simatai. It is well connected to all the major cities around the world, including Bombay and New Delhi.
When To Go: China is gearing up for Olympics 2008 so this is the best time to visit the country. May and October are the two best months to visit the Great Wall as the weather conditions are optimum and tourists are few. June to September are considered peak season in Beijing. So avoid these months if you want to miss the crowds. Summers can get unbelievably hot, but winter is a good time to visit the Great Wall, if you can bear the cold that is.
Other Places of Interest: Here are some more must-see sights in Beijing:
- Tiananmen Square: One of the most famous tourist spots in Beijing where you get to see the real China.
- Imperial Palace: The Forbidden City that is a true glimpse into the China of old.
- Summer Palace: The magnificent gardens are not to be missed!
