The Temptation Of Tawang
Honeymooning with a Shaaditimes couple
|
Verdant forests sheltering thousands of rare species and five hundred types of orchids, milky white snow laden mountain peaks, rivers and streams creating natural waterfalls, lakes on mountaintop valleys and colourful tribes with their curious social customs all collectively make Arunachal Pradesh an experience straight from heaven.
A couple burdened with the daily hustle and bustle of life, starting a new beginning of togetherness need look no further than Tawang for their share of peace and tranquillity.
Tawang - Neighbour's Envy; Owner's Pride
Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh is one of those few hidden secret getaways that all honeymooners want to horde. It is currently in news for China claiming it to be a part of its territory.
Most of the tourists here are honeymooners who want to escape from the outside world. In Tawang, they only know each other and can enjoy the warmth of their "new found" company in the lap of cold mountain ranges.
Travelling by car from Tezpur, between thick clouds as you reach Se La pass, a large gate with colourful flags, marks the entry to picturesque Tawang town. Incidentally, Se La is the second highest motorable pass in India after Khardung La in Ladakh.
Going ahead from the main town ascending towards the mountaintop vegetation becomes rare. The beauty of Penkang Teng lake (P T Tso lake) will take your breath away. Ice floating on lake water is a rare treat for most people so keep your cameras ready.
It takes an hour to reach Shungaster lake aka Madhuri lake renamed after the shooting of movie "Koyla". The lake is fairly large with barren trees standing in between. It is located in the lap of a valley and surrounded by high mountains from three sides and the horizon on one side. Seen from the right angle, it appears as though the lake water is falling from the edge of the earth into free Space.
Moving on to Bum-la, situated at a height of 15,500 feet, Chinese posts are visible in the next mountaintop. This place remains cloudy almost throughout the year. Here the mountain peaks stands taller than the clouds, a sight cherished by a lucky few.
A visit to the famous 400 years old Tawang monastery known as Galden Namgyel Lhatse or celestial paradise is highly recommended. It was constructed in the 17th century and is one of the largest monasteries in Asia. It houses a big library of holy books, some of which are written in gold letters.
The Journey Is As Amazing As The Destination
En-route to Tawang, you'll pass Bomdila. Located at an altitude of 8500 feet it is a small bustling town blessed by nature. Honeymooners are advised to take a break here - not only do you get to stretch your legs but also enjoy the landscape at leisure. Check out the nearby waterfalls and Gompas. Also, you can easily spend half a day in the Orchid garden at Tipi with its 7500 varieties of Orchids and Cactus.
