What V-Day Gifts Do Women Value?

Of course, the best gift is arguably that of time and attention. So tickets to a nearby resort for the coming weekend always score over say, impersonal gift certificates that say, 'I wasn't sure of your size, and likes/dislikes, so you can buy something for yourself.'

In a nutshell, when it comes to choosing a gift that will light up her eyes, remember to respect the cliché - it's not the cost, but the thought that matters!

If you're still scratching your head for want of ideas, here are a few to get by:
  • You want to tell her that you treasure her body and soul. A basket of bath salts and oils, relaxing shower gels, bubble baths, body lotions, hand creams, and luxury scented soap will be appreciated, more so if you tag a suggestive note to it, 'Enjoy this with me'!
  • If your wife is fond of cooking, a cookbook or heart-shaped baking cookie cutters accompanied by a sweet note 'Fill me with your love' would make a good present.
  • A trinket box, filled with her favourite chocolate or honey drops, would go down well with a chocolate lover.
  • If both of you are the literary types, a poetry book or classical romantic novel, and a pen with a personalized message are a good choice. Better still, write a poem for her.
  • If she keeps a diary, a diary of hand-made paper is a nice gift, especially if you make the first entry dated February 14, 2008. Pen down how you'd like the day and night to pan out! Go on, be creative.
  • A photo frame personalized with a romantic quote, with a picture of the two of you on your wedding or honeymoon.
  • A T-shirt or pillow cover, personalized with your photo and a naughty caption - 'Hug me' or something of the sort - is an innovative gift.
  • If you'd like to play your nostalgia card, buy her an old calendar - of the year you met, or when you dated, and circle a few memorable dates. That'll show her you cherish your time together as much as she!
  • Of course, you could always burn a CD of her favourite love songs, but do remember - this is illegal!

The point is to think about what will make her - or him - smile and then create a gift in the effort to bring forth that smile. You can't go wrong!
