Be it cricket or life, the merchant of spin likes to keep 'em guessing. Harbhajan Singh extracts turns even on dead tracks and his sense of humour and zest for life can enthuse life into the most monotonous conversation. Cricket great Garfield Sobers, considered one of the best all rounders the game has seen, reckons Bhajji will be India's trump card in the World Cup. Of course, with Ramesh Powar out of the reckoning, Harbhajan is our only trump in the squad.
Along with Anil 'Jumbo' Kumble who has announced this will be his last World Cup, on the spinning tracks of the West Indies, Bhajji can form a combination that will give sleepless nights to the opposition batsmen.
Like his well-disguised doosra delivery, the lad from Jalandhar has another side to him. Of a flamboyant, chivalrous man, who knows how to treat a lady. Ask the dusky model from Bangalore, he was rumoured to have been engaged with; or his team mates who will smile but won't divulge any details of his extra-curricular activities. Despite his penchant for controversy-he enraged Sikh leaders by doing a liquor ad and recently denied having campaigned during the Punjab polls-Harbhajan's friendly nature ensures there is no kiss and tell. But at the end of the day, Sonu, as family and friends call him, is a momma's boy. "Every time I come back home after a tour, my sisters and mom try and persuade me to get married. I may not be able to resist them for long," he maintains.
