Friends Indeed
|
Chaya agrees, "Initially, my marriage took the attention off our friendship but soon my husband too became good friends with the rest of the gang, and would join us in the fun.
"They were seasons in the sun. I miss the good times. But the distances haven't taken a toll over our relationship. It is still the same. Thanks to the modern communication gadgets, we are always in touch. I recently met Sunny after a gap of three years but nothing has changed. We got back to the same masti we used to do in our college days," she reminisces fondly.
She is all smiles as she recalls one such moment. "The funniest of them was when we went to Goa. We threw the Vodka from Sunny's bottle and filled it with water. He mixed water with water and enjoyed his vodka (laughs). It was a little later that he realised that he was given a topi."
It was not all fun and frolic, but learning too. Rajeev says, "Each individual was different with his or her own set of strengths. I have learnt something from everyone. From Chaya, I have learnt, 'Don't worry, be happy' attitude. From Kavitha, 'Be bold and express what you feel'. From Sunny - 'You must stare with narrowed eyes, as if you are concentrating hard, if you want to 'patao' a girl. Jokes apart, he strengthened my belief in relationships being more valuable than material fulfilment."
Rahul- Amit
The duo has been together ever since they can remember. Rahul says, "Amit and I have been the best of buddies since we started going to nursery. In the true sense, he can be called my langotia yaar , which means childhood buddy. We would go to school together, eat together during recess and stay together no matter what. We have been a family."
He goes on to add, "Amit is simple. I don't need to make efforts to understand him. He is easy-going and fun-loving and yes, very adjusting. He is like water; he can fit in anywhere, everywhere. And that bugs me at times. He would befriend anyone and everyone and that would leave me with a sense of insecurity. I can never share my best friend! Of course, I could spare him for his girl friend - whom I got together in the first place."
It's not that this friendship has been all smooth sailing. It has, most definitely, and enabled them to come closer and stronger. Amit recalls, "We still remember the fight we got into while playing a cricket match during Class VI. He slapped me so I began to cry, then he cried out of guilt. But that was as kids. As we grew up, there were times when jealous people tried to create misunderstandings between us. But they did not succeed."
Rahul adds: "When in college, his girl friend fell for me and that caused a little misunderstanding especially after others provoked him. But our friendship was more powerful and that did not last long. A woman could be the cause for a Mahabharat , but nothing happened to our friendship that we all swore by.
"We can depend on each other. We share and discuss everything under the sun; there is no secret between us, including family problems. When I was out of town and my mother was hospitalised, it was Amit who took good care, like a son. Through thick and thin, through sweat and blood, he has been my best friend," Rahul praises Amit.
All of us have fond memories of these 'wonder years'. It is up to us not to lose a single opportunity to relive those days. Get in touch with your pals, tell them how much you love and care... cause they are 'forever'.
Friendship helps bring peace to the globe - another great reason to celebrate!
Tips to make this friendship day special:
- Write a nice card for your friends telling them how much you appreciate their friendship. Open up your heart to them as if there is no tomorrow.
- Buy or make them a small present - flowers, chocolates, a cake, or anything that catches your imagination! Consider leaving the gift anonymously for added intrigue!
- Make it a point to call each one of your friends on Friendship Day to let them know you care.
- Make your friend a tape of all the songs that define your friendship (or ones that you just happen to mutually like!)
- Submit a Friendship Tribute to your friend to be posted on the web.
- Call all those old friends you haven't spoken to in ages... Remember: "Make new friends and keep the old, new is silver and old is gold"
- Make a special friendship book for your best friend. Include photos, quotes and poetry telling your friends how special they are.
- Invite your closest buddies over for a sleepover! Rent some movies and pig out on popcorn, chocolate and all forms of unhealthy food! Bring some blankets outside and watch the stars.
- Plan a special day with your best friend or friends. A picnic is always a fun idea, and is great for all ages. If you're physically-inclined, try an activity such as bowling, trekking, cricket or beach bumming.
- If you're busy during the day, plan a dinner outing. Dress up in your finest and have a fun night that's different from the normal.
- Host a Friendship Dinner Party!
- Ring up a radio station and dedicate a song to your friends!
- Make some new friends by becoming a doer of RAOK - Random Acts of Kindness.
- Buy your friend a ticket to the theatre so you can enjoy a great show together.
- Give your friend a Friendship Bracelet (made or bought) to symbolise your friendship.
- Grab a camera or visit a photo machine and take some photos of you and your friends enjoying yourselves!
