The light-eyed pace merchant is a strong wicket on the home front. Married now for five years, the Agarkars are a popular couple on Mumbai's party circuit.
The petite wife of speedster Ajit Agarkar is a mover and shaker in the corporate world. Employed as a management consultant with Egon Zehnder, a Masters in Business Administration studied at Sydenham College.
A pace bowler's career is often fraught with injuries. And the lanky speedster is no exception. If he got bouquets for the distinction of scoring the fastest One Day fifty for India, he also faced brickbats for scoring a series of ducks. In fact, the Media bestowed him with the title Bombay Duck. During the ups and downs of his career, Fatima has been a rock of support, says Agarkar, whose bowling figures of 6-42 against the Australians at Melbourne remain the best for an Indian in ODIs. "Throughout my career my family, particularly Fatima, has been a great source of strength."
During India's victorious tour to Pakistan four years back, Fatima, along with Shailaja Laxman, wife of VVS Laxman and Shweta Kartik wife of Murali Karthik, visited the Wagah border to witness the flag lowering ceremony.
The younger sister of club cricketer Mazhar Ghadially, Fatima plays doting mother to her toddler son after work and hard-nosed management consultant while in office. As they say trust an all rounder, to find another.
