Get Into The Mood For Holi!
|
''Bhang ke pakore'' may not be your cup of tea, but how else can you adopt a footloose and carefree attitude to celebrate this Holi with your lover and friends?
Okay - so it's that time of the year again, but the very thought of being drenched in multi-coloured water makes you feel icky. Worse still, is the idea of being offered ''bhang ke pakore'' to loosen up your spirits prior to the dousing!
If that's not your style, may we suggest that instead of being a sufferer, you set the tone for your Holi celebrations. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- If you're planning to be alone with your partner, suggest that you skip the getting wet in parts and go all the way (pun intended)! Soak in the fragrance of a tub bath. Add rose petals to the bath to get some colour into the picture.
- Ever seen children play Holi? 'Play' is truly the way to go, and that could well be the means for you to get into the mood. Instead of starting and ending your celebrations with family and friends with colours, propose that you all play your favourite games to lighten up the spirit. Perhaps you could have 'getting coloured' as a consequence only for those who lose!
- In all truth, 'bhang' is just a ruse to get people into the mood. Instead, have a laughter session and tell your guests to come prepared with jokes. Instead of drinking yourself silly, laugh yourself silly! Once you've laughed at yourself, you will probably not take yourself so seriously, and be more amenable to allow yourself to be coloured.
- Organize a novel Holi - have a costume party. After all, isn't Holi about celebrating colours? So tell everyone to come dressed in multi-coloured outfits. The one with the most colours on his/her dress wins! And skip the conventional colours.
- Watch a rerun of movies that have famous Holi scenes or songs. Yes - I'm talking Silsila , or Sholay . Amitabh's baritone might just inspire you to pick up that pichkari and target... "The colour of love".
- Again, if it's just you and the missus, pick a vantage spot on your private terrace and laze around watching everyone around make fools of themselves.
- If not enjoying the boisterousness of Holi is linked to low energy levels, use the holiday to get an energy boost. Check yourselves into a spa for the day.
- Whatever you do, don't sleep though it all! The trick is to choose what you know you will enjoy - that in itself will infuse you with a carefree spirit to make the most of the day. Trying new things is an equally great way to loosen up, and help all your friends enjoy a different 'Holi'. Go - spread your reawakened spirit.
