Diwali is the festival of lights; the illuminating
light has many trends to beckon. From earthen
diyas to stylish candles there are many unique
ways to beautify your pad. The colour palette
has various tones from rustic earthen to
flamboyant fluorescent.
Diwali is also associated with rangolis and torans. "Now a days people want everything different so styles so creativity is what people are looking for this time around," said Jagruti Dalal of Beautiful Homes.
Floating Diyas - These
diyas are a big rage and can create the mark of sophistication when floated in crystal trays along with flower petals. If you are the experimenting kinds then use an old basin bowl that is painted earthen and float the lamps in it along with coloured pebbles. The price range is from Rs. 15 to Rs. 500. "The prices depend on the style and the material used as floating diyas do have different sizes," said Jayshree Shah of Lights and Candles.
Bamboo Diyas - The latest in
diyas, these
diyas are fixed in a bamboo and the whole stick is decorated. "This is something very unique and is just right for consoles and window parapets," said Dalal. The price range is between Rs. 400 to Rs. 600.
Matki Diyas - Traditionalism is what defines these
diyas. They come in the shape of earthen pots and one can light these
diyas one above the other and is best kept at the sides and the corner of the house. "Very reasonable at just Rs. 10 for a pair of
matkis and also look very elegant if you can decorate it on a side table," said Shruti Shah of Soham designs.
Diya Boxes - This is a multipurpose one. Here the candle piece is in the centre and has two shelves, where one can put sweets and dry fruits. This is ideal for a centre table or console. The price range is Rs. 300 onwards.
Motif Diyas - These
diyas consists of Laxmi, Ganesh and Vishnu motifs in the center with
diyas all around. Such
diyas are adorned with mirrors and intricate designs. The cost varies from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1000.
Temple Diyas- It is just right for
rangolis. It is a beautiful temple shaped
diya with around 25 wicks. When lit it illuminates the whole
rangoli. The price ranges from Rs. 200 to Rs. 2000.
Metal Diyas - Traditional metal
diyas are back in a big way and brass is the metal for the season. These
diyas can adorn the service windows or the parapet of windows. The best part is it can be reused as many times as one wants. The price range is Rs. 250 onwards.
Meenakari Diyas -
Rajasthani tradition is reflected on these
diyas and intricate designs are embellished with mirror and coloured stones. They are apt for
puja purposes and each piece is around Rs. 250.
