Celebrities Share Their Raksha Bandhan Memories
|
The festival season is just kicking off and with Raksha Bandhan just round the corner, sibling rivalry is taking a back seat. As brothers and sisters get together to celebrate their mutual love, Shaaditimes finds out:
What Raksha Bandhan means to celebrities? And what are their memories?
Amrita Rao (Actor, Ishq Vishk, Main Hoon Na, Vivah)
'I have no real brother, but I tie rakhi to my maternal cousins Akshay and Sanat, who are both younger to me, every year. On Raksha Bandhan day we form a small little company and have fun, and they both have made it a tradition to always gift me movie-tickets on this day!'
Dev Anand (Actor)
'The festival I guess dates back to the time when soldiers would go to war and sisters would tie a rakhi for their safe return. It now signifies a binding relationship between brother and sister, and any man and woman who have similar sentiments. My three surviving sisters live in London, Delhi and Mumbai and the other two do come down for the occasion unless I am away myself on some important occasion.'
Aashish Chowdhry (Actor, Qayamat, Girl Friend, Dhamaal)
'There was a time when so many girls in college would want to tie a rakhi to me and I would run away! But jokes apart, I cherish Raksha Bandhan as a tradition for the value it puts on sentiment and relationships and the girls and women of our country. My sister Monica is the closest person to me ever, but whether it is my college friend Radhika who has been religiously sending me a rakhi since then from wherever she may be, another friend Tanaaz whose kids call me Mamu and my closest friend in the industry, Anna Singh (ace designer) who has always cared for me and guided me, rakhi for me can even be a substitute for the blood ties that link real siblings.'
Ashmit Patel (Actor, Murder)
'Raksha Bandhan is a time for reiterating your relationship with your sister and reflecting upon the bond with your sibling. My sister Ameesha is as dear to me as ever, regardless of what she thinks or feels about me. From my side, nothing has ever changed and nothing ever will, because the bond of blood cannot be denied. 'I would not like to talk anything more of how things are today. Whenever she wishes, she can come to me.'
Usha Mangeshkar (Playback singer)
'What is there to speak about something that everyone knows about? It's a very pavitra (pure) occasion and extremely important to us - four sisters because we have just one brother, Hridaynath, whom we all dote upon and pray for. I only hope that all sisters and brothers feel as deeply for each other.'
Shreya Ghoshal (Singer)
'My brother Soumyadeep is seven years younger to me. So I used to feel very bad that I never got good gifts from him! (Laughs) Now that he's grown to be a teenager, he gives me money from his piggy bank as a shagun. But not a day goes when I do not pray for his good life, happiness and well-being.'
