Getting knotty?
Bridal wear trends for 2006-07

Planning to get knotty this year? And is the sheer variety and abundance of bridal wear in the market bogging you down? Shaaditimes unveils the trends in bridal wear for the coming wedding season. There is more to bridal wear than simply draping a saree.... after all, it's going to be your style statement. So know what's in and what's out this bridal season.

"Weddings are a celebration of everything that is traditional. Hence sarees are making a comeback in a huge way teamed with revealing cut blouses they look very sensuous," says fashion designer Shaina N C.

Evergreen sarees
3-piece drapes are very popular this season. They are ready to wear and come with an A-line and well-fitted ghagra with a choli and a flowy net duppatta. Voluminous ghagras are definitely out this time.

However, to break the monotony and to mix the western streak with ethnic Indian style, today's brides are ready to experiment with bolder cholis like corsets and halters and strappy ones. These can also be teamed with a skirt or jeans for later use. "For the morning rituals and ceremonies the brides can try out short kurtis and churidars," quips Shaina.

"Though the conventional shades of red is common I am seeing a lot of oranges this year," says Shaina. Those who want a different look can go with the festive mood and choose turquoise aqua and green.

Lighter fabrics
A little heavier variety of chiffons and georgettes give a thicker fall and they are fast replacing the traditional silk and brocades. Delicate yet intricate work is in, so lace and net are hot favourites. Again, though ethnic Indian embroidery like aari, resham and zardosi look classy, crystals and beads play an integral part of bridal fashion today. The brilliance of Swarovski crystals makes a bride shine and look chic.

Khadi the new rage
Khadi for bridal wear? Fashion gurus predict khadi to be the latest trend in fabric for bridal wear this year. 2006-2007 weddings will see the traditional khadi in contemporary styles and cuts. Designer sarees, short kurtas with patiala salwars and churidaars, short and long jackets for women and for men there are shirts, kurtas, trousers all in khadi. Intricate embroidery either in gold or silver or even in silk thread looks very chic on khadi. Accessorised with ethnic gold jewellery, a khadi outfit is very timeless. Of course there are limitations with khadi as it requires high maintenance. But natural fabrics like khadi are the preferred choice of many designers as they can play around with intricate embroidery techniques. In addition, khadi is a fabric that can work well on brides of all sizes as against softer fabrics like chiffons and crepes.

Rocky S forecasts
Colour Palette:
Mehendi - Green and orange
Sangeet - Wine and Blue
Cocktail - Coral & Fuschia
This year Rocky's formals breeze with swishes of chiffon and delicate crepes. The colours are jewelled in turqoises, peridots, garnets and amethysts. The feel is luxurious opulence combined with comfort and weariblity. Understated: where less is more seems to be Rocky's mantra. Beiges, peaches, light pinks and greens float in layers. The tone- on- tone concept is carried to the night. We find formal wedding and reception wear with both blouse and saree in matching colours and complementary embroidery. Rocky contrasts solids with the use of embellishments, sequences and age-old craft of tilla badla work to enhance and add dimension to the overall look. Thumbs-up to his cholis that are longer and fitted close to the silhouette this year. Value for money as the choli looks stunning worn with a pair of faded jeans at a disc as well as being worn with saree - lehnga for an Indian occasion.
