Make your Wedding Day Special!

'Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves.' - J M Barrie

In keeping with the words of the famous dramatist & novelist, an increasing number of couples these days are sharing their joy of coming together with not just their friends and family, but also with needy strangers they have never met before.

Wondering How???... By volunteering to contribute their wedding gifts to charitable organizations in want of donations.

With the Wedding Season soon approaching, it is interesting to note the change in perspective that has come over the traditional marriage scenario, whereby a majority of the Brides and Grooms today, are well established in their careers, with many being homeowners, and already owning all the appliances, glassware and cutlery they could possibly ever use.

This sense of 'material plenty' might be what's driving the trend to contribute during a wedding, instead of merely consume, but then again it could also be the 'novelty factor' associated with such a gift, or simply the need to share your happiness...

Whatever the reasons, more and more bridal couples are donating to charity instead of accepting gifts themselves.

To provide its members a better chance towards tying their vows with values, Shaadi.com, the world's leading matrimonial site, has tied up with Give India, a recognized platform for online donations in India. Through this initiative, Shaadi.com has attempted to encourage this concept of 'Gift A Donation' to the over 100 NGOs listed with Give India.

Shaadi.com members are provided with three options of donating to Give India:
  • Couples can set aside a stipulated amount from their wedding budget to donate to a cause.
  • Couples can ask their friends & family to gift them a donation via Give India as a wedding present.
  • Couples can donate their cash gifts to a worthwhile cause.

Give India has listed various NGOs supporting diverse issues - Children, Women, Human Rights, Environment, Health, Education, Youth, etc. - providing socially conscious couples with a choice of causes to aid. Couples can choose to donate to an NGO dealing with a subject close to their interests and representing the ideals they believe in as individuals.

According to Mr. Vibhas Mehta, Business Head, Shaadi.com, "Our tie-up with Give India is of special significance to us since it coincides with Shaadi.com's 10-year celebrations; and is an initiative that encourages philanthropy amongst the audiences. We are glad to be a part of this alliance that brings together, two very noble causes - Marriage & Service to Community,"

Shaadi.com was founded with one simple objective - to provide a superior matchmaking experience to Indians all over the world. Since then the company has created a world-renowned service that has touched the lives of millions of people all over the world.

This year Shaadi.com celebrates its 10th Anniversary; with its 10 years 1 million matches giveaways all throughout the year. Celebrating a decade of bringing people marital bliss, and a decade of revolutionizing the matchmaking industry, not just in India but also across the globe.

The company was recently adjudged as the 'Most User Friendly Website' by Juxt Consult; and as the 'Best Designed Website' by PC World.

In addition it has been ranked 'The most visited matrimonial website in India' by Ranking.com. "Through this initiative, Shaadi.com, India's leading matrimonial site, has endeavored to help couples make their wedding a more meaningful event", added Mr. Mehta.

So, in the process of deciding the menu and the kind of flowers to be used as decorations for the wedding, the rapidly increasing reception of this concept is giving couples another point to discuss - 'should we help educate a child or contribute towards the empowerment of women?' There are a host of examples that stand witness to the increasing acceptance this concept in gaining worldwide. Probably what is making the entire effort worth it is the humane touch and the feel-good factor it gives to the otherwise materially focused wedding affair.
