'Each generation is a new people,' observed Alexis de Tocqueville.
This being the case ShaadiTimes takes a ring-side view at three generations- kal, aaj aur kal . How different is Gen X from their parents and grandparents? On what issues do they differ most and on what least?
Every generation is a melting pot of different kinds of people. Attitudes, mindsets and ideologies reflect each generation's interpretation of life.
In triple speak no one generation is either right or wrong. It is a point of view.
Are women able to keep a secret; as well as men?
|
Kiron Juneja, Television actress
I think women are able to keep a secret better than a man because inherently a woman is private by nature. Women don't share their inner most feelings, and dreams with many people. We do discuss frivolous things and like to be with friends. I would like to clarify that my best friend and confidante who can keep a secret is my husband (film maker Ramesh Sippy). I have the confidence that what I am able to share with him, my thoughts and feelings, will stay with him. He won't use this against me or bring it up to prove a right point. This is why although a woman can keep a secret sometimes it is the man in your life who will be the one to tell a secret.
Dharmesh Sood, model / actor
Men will keep a secret better than a woman. I think the ratio is 80-20. Women will tell a friend or girl friend because it is her nature to want to tell someone something if it is bothering her. It is a way for her to let her stress level reduce. A woman needs to be free from tension. Generalizing about men and women is unfair though. At the heart of the matter it is an individual viewpoint and individual's actions.
Yashraj Jadav - Instructor, Film Studies
The idea that a woman can not keep a secret is absolutely false, demeaning and a sexist statement. This idea opens a Pandora's box and can be construed as a "psychological handicap' for all women in general. It's a known fact that women excel as leaders, administrators and runners of different groups. People who are making this statement, perhaps, are not aware of the history. Look at the soul stirring secret "Panna Dhai" (a 16th century Rajput woman) kept (where she exchanged her son for the heir of the throne and in the process her actual son was killed). Ancient societies were run by women in Greece or the Mohenjodaro. To sum it up: I think to say women can't keep secret, as well as their male-counterparts, is as derogatory as to say all 'women gossip a lot', 'women bitch a lot', etc...all of these are male chauvinistic statements and harm the dignity of women.
