Should women have to choose between motherhood or career?

First of all I would like to say motherhood is a full-time job and one that you can't resign from. It is something you have for your entire life. In other words, motherhood is a full time career in itself. A woman is responsible for looking after a child's every need: feeding them, their tiffins, arranging birthday parties, chaperoning them. It is one of those jobs that's overlooked and yet intrinsic to the emotional well-being and shaping of an individual as they become young adults. I feel if a woman has the emotional temerity and physical stamina to handle the multi-tasking requirement to fulfill both, then why not? A woman is certainly entitled to have economic independence and a sense of self-worth and esteem that she obtains from her career too.

I am married and a father of a seventeen year old son. Both my wife Meera and myself have always tried to find a healthy balance and solution. When our son was little she didn't want to work and now if she wants to work it is her choice. I wouldn't interfere if she feels she can manage both the child and her career.

I don't think a woman has to choose between being a good home-maker and having a career in today's world. In my mother's time things may have been different. Even today in some areas such as the rural areas there still is apprehension about women working, but times are changing in every part of the country.
