Do you think there is excessive moral policing in India? Tejaswita Sawant Gopi Mohan Ghosh Shawar Ali Tejaswita Sawant, Call centre employee
Yes, these days moral policing has really gone up too much in India though I don't find any reason for it. People are not changing their attitude which they had 10 years back. They are holding on to some social norms instead of moving with time. Every Valentine's Day you find a section of people harassing couples and destroying stores uneccessarily. It's pure vandalism in the name of moral policing!

In the 21st century, people should be allowed to lead their own life in their own way freely and peacefully. But, sadly, in India people make a huge issue of small things even now and interfere with another person's life. Recently we found couples were beaten up in a park. It was very unfair. Where else would these couples go if they have strict parents and are not allowed to meet at home? Similarly a huge controversy started with the wardrobe malfunction in the Lakme Fashion Week. You know, these things are natural and happen sometimes accidentally, but no one is ready to understand the plight of the poor girls! Moral policing in these levels becomes a tad excessive.

Gopi Mohan Ghosh, retired railway official
Now a days the definition of morality has undergone a sea change. In our Constitution the Fundamental Rights of Freedom of speech and expression has been used loosely and now people are taking advantage of it and misusing the rights. Hence in some cases I feel that moral policing has become a necessity, or else we will soon forget our culture.
