Lighten up! Play Purple

Lighten up! Play Purple The Colours of Love - 10

It's easier to carry along a partner who is light in mind, attitude and behaviour.

The colour purple is usually associated with royalty. What does that mean? Should royalty be equated with pompousness? After all, the kings and queens of yore were royal, right? And they were pretty uppity too!

Well - we present a new take for the colour purple and that is, to be royal is to act according to the need of the moment. So - if you're in serious company or you and your partner are facing a tough situation this would translate as being earnest.

Purple playfulness

But when it's just the two of you, and your life is chugging along easily, there must be a measure of frivolity in your togetherness. Life is far too short to let it pass by in serious contemplation. To be light in your relationship implies not feeling ashamed to show that you care... in any playful manner that you please.

Like Rakesh - who had an endearing (he thought) habit of nibbling his partner's ear whenever he wanted to signal he was in a mood to cuddle! But sadly, his spouse Chandrika perceived his action as being too romeo-like. So much for lightness!

Oh, she went along with it. After all, they'd only been married six months. But she resented most of his 'opening moves'! And you know what they say about keeping it all within. One day, your resentment is bound to spill out.

Relaxation is the key to frivolity

So it happened that one late evening, she couldn't hold back. She gave vent to her feelings, telling Rakesh just how much she felt embarrassed when he made his moves. Rakesh heard her out. Then strangely, when Chandrika looked up at him, she saw him smiling, not frowning. This irritated her even more!

"What are smiling like that for?" she asked.

At this point, it would be useful to mention that this twosome had had an arranged marriage... and Chandrika had relocated post-marriage from a smaller town to Mumbai.

Rakesh had had a few flings before tying the knot. But post-marriage, he had firmly put a full stop to his past. Now he was totally besotted with his simple wife and determined to make things work with her.

Don't always work at your relationship - have fun too!

"Chandrika, what are you embarrassed about?"

She sat staring at him, wondering how to reply. How could she tell him that he made her feel kind of loose, and that she had been brought up to think that once she was a 'bahu' and 'biwi', she had to be the epitome of responsibility and correctness.

Rakesh took over, as he realized that she was tongue-tied. And he read her mind so easily that he thought he might as well put her at ease.

"It's alright to be responsible and all that when we're in company. But when it's just you and me, don't you think we should be having fun? Look at me. In the six months we've been married, I must confess that I haven't felt as though you've been relaxed whenever I've made love to you. Chandrika, I want you to be my friend and lover. Not just a wife. And so I want you to feel as if you can do anything and say whatever you please when you're with me. So be easy, please."
