The task of impressing today's woman is a daunting task for most men. The new woman is independent, confident and very focused.. with a mind of her own. With a career that suits her personality most women today need to wooed with a difference. Whatever may suit a doctor may not impress a teacher, a journalist or a PR executive. So before you go down on your knees do a little homework on your woman.

Here we have come up with friendly / light-hearted advice from professional women on what they really look for in a perfect life partner. Read on and hone your skills accordingly to impress the lady and win her heart...

If she is a model:
These beauty queens have oh so silky skin, gorgeous locks and that sexy smile. So it would be better to do a quick check on your appearance as well before going in for the kill. Also a heavy wallet and a smart designer wear are welcome, but do not leave your brains at home!

"Most people feel that models or actress are bimbettes and care only about good looks and money, but this is not true. Most of the models are intelligent, hard working and well read, so it is not that easy to impress them. They are quite choosy when it comes to their wardrobes or life partners and always want the best," adds Dr Tushar Guha, personality development counsellor.

Aarti Chabria
"Good looks do matter. That's what attracts me to talk to him initially. But there should a good mixture of brain and brawn. He should be intelligent, well- educated and well- settled in life. Most importantly he should be liberal and have an open mind. He should have full faith in me and let me take my professional decisions independently. If I have to walk down a ramp he should understand that my profession needs it and that does not mean I have forgotten my duties at home. Every girl loves to be complimented but only genuine ones are acceptable." - Aarti Chabria, Actress/ Model, Mumbai

If she is a journalist:
Well, these critical minds are always a step smarter. Do not try to feign your attitude because they have a mind of a detective and a very good network to look beneath the surface. Honesty and sensitivity is always respected. Also don't forget to update yourself with a daily dose of newspaper reading!

"Most people have a pre-set mind that journalists are always probing and so they are often avoided by general people. But this concept is incorrect. Journalists are also common people after their work hours and need to be loved. Understand the requirements and limitations of her profession, do not belittle or be in awe, have an open mind, do not be rigid and defensive about your opinions and you will be able to bowl them over," adds Dr Guha.

Anusha Chandrashekharan "As a journo I expect my partner to share keen interests in different aspects of life. He should be able to participate in discussions in a wide range of issue - from politics, to movies to travel to social problems to books. Sensitivity and a witty sense of humour is an absolute essential. We journos always have to work under continuous pressure because meeting a deadline is very important. Also seldom there is 9-5 work hour for us. Very often we have to work on night shifts and travel a lot. I expect my partner to understand my job and me. He should also be open to the idea of me interacting with thousands of people and attending late night calls. " - Anusha Chandrashekharan, Journalist, Chennai

If she is a teacher:
It is very unfortunate, but true, that teachers are not taken very seriously because of their profession. In the marriage market they are always in demand because people feel that they do not have long working hours and are eligible for more vacations, which is a perfect fit to look after the house especially after earning a buck. Teaching is a noble profession. One that takes up an onus to mould the minds of children. Some people might joke that teachers are boring or childish because they spend most of the time with little kids.

If you want to impress a teacher mind your mark sheets and manners, and be prepared to pick-up your towel from the bed, give up burping in public or keeping an unruly cupboard. Etiquette and discipline are the key words for her.
