How To Make Anyone Fall In Love With You
|
The title says it clearly ''How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You,'' authored by tall, lithesome, blond and super-sexy Leil Lowndes, an international communications expert based in New York. And chances are if you were 5' 10'' tall and willowy you probably wouldn't have a difficult time finding suitors in the first place. Just joking.
Seriously, I think what makes me uneasy is the premise of the book. The research is scientific and comprehensive, but it fails to mention the truths of human nature that we all side-step or push to the deep recesses of our minds.
A truth: Men are judged by money and power and women by youth and beauty.
Whether we like to acknowledge this or not doesn't change it. We can wax eloquently about how women are changing the world and they are... but if you investigate further you'll discover what men and women say isn't necessarily what they mean. According to guys their ideal mate has to be, "intelligent, nice, homely, endearing," but what they mean is she should be, "intelligent, beautiful, ripe, and lusting". Women will say they want someone who is supportive, intelligent and handsome. What they mean is that they want someone who will be the, "provider, display strength, intelligence, and care for them."
If there is a flaw in Lowndes book it is in the above. People don't always say what they mean or mean what they say. Nor do they admit what they feel for fear of opposition and reprisal. This can be as forceful as the scrutiny of well-wishing relatives, or subliminal signposts from friends.
Having said this, you have to give the author credit for the comprehensive investigation of the motivators of the heart. If Lowndes falls short, it is in incorporating the random variables that add to the creation of love.
The book's claim to fame is the promise of divulging 85 scientific techniques that guarantee the realization of love. Lowendes delivers these with sensitivity, thoughtfulness and logic.
Yet she only divulges the most important secret at the end of three hundred pages. Love is illogical.
The book does...
Give background information about becoming more desirable with secrets dating back to the days of Cleopatra, Helen, Christie Brinkley, and Sophia Loren.
The book does not...
Tell you how to maintain your relationship once you've followed all the guidelines and have raptured your beloved with scientifically proven methods. In other words it doesn't tell you what to do once you stop acting and be yourself.
For example:
After reading page 59, the book shows you how to soften you're interest's heart. And on page 100 we are taught to "echo". So yes, if your sweetie says yes, you reply yes. Flip to page 137 and we're told to admire, compliment, and criticize. And if he's responding keep him in his place. Just tell him off.
The book is worth a look
After reading the book, I had to admit despite the many foibles in her scientific methods the book was worth reading as it logically unraveled certain mysteries about the idea of "relationships", "love" and what leads to "marriage". This in itself is an important sociological investigation. However calling it a foolproof way to find, hold and conquer true love - I'm not so sure.
Lowndes does remind us at the end of the book that despite the proved methods presented in her book there is a caveat that "true love" cannot be disguised, nudged, or forced into being. In other words the scientific methods may not work if there wasn't an initial attraction.
