A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss
The Colours of Love - 9: Green

A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss Keep innovating - it's good for your love life!

Business is all about giving and taking, right? And as every business person knows, innovation is the only means to stay ahead in the marketplace. Well - so is the case with love!

What does that bode for love? Does a couple 'in love' need to continuously innovate to stay in love?

The answer to that is 'yes' - while partners may have made do with a humdrum existence a few decades ago, this no longer holds true. No thanks to numerous distractions and growing expectations, couples must nowadays look to keep reinventing their relationship to keep it new.

Green is fresh - go for it!

Innovation takes on many avatars in a relationship. It may include a person undergoing a makeover to keep a partner's interest alive. Or it may be a change in the way you think, or perceive a situation.

In Ravi's case, the green he sought to bring into his relation was as simple as choosing a new destination for the family's summer vacation. Every year, his wife, two children and he headed off to Shimla, where they stayed in his ancestral property with his widowed mother and elder brothers' family.

But last year, since his mother had passed away, he felt he needed a change of destination. Quite asides the fact that the property would bring back memories he wanted to avoid, he felt his kids also needed a break.

Open your mind - go green

"Their friends visit new places with their parents every year," he pointed out to his wife Sheela. "They have been so good all these years, knowing that I'd want to spend time with mum. They deserve a change too. So what if we don't meet Shekhar's [his brother] family this year. They're coming down for a wedding in December in any case - we can catch up then."

But Sheela was adamant to have her way, that is, head towards Shimla for summer. Her reasoning was that the holiday in Shimla was inexpensive (no hotel costs, you see!) and what with rising prices, it was what they could afford.

Innovation will bring new memories

"I need new memories," said Ravi, "and I don't mind paying for that."
