Burning Love
Honeymoon Cystitis
|
For any bride, her honeymoon is supposed to be pure bliss and a loving pleasure. But what happens when a bride gets sick and sex becomes a frustrating and painful act during her honeymoon. Women generally suffer from Honeymoon Cystitis - a term used for a urinary tract infection that can occur as a result of irritation and bruising from frequent & prolonged sexual intercourse.
The reason for this connection with honeymoon is that this cystitis occurs as a result of frequent or prolonged sexual activity, typically expected during the honeymoon period of a marriage.
The symptoms may include:
- Pressure in the lower pelvis
- Painful urination
- Frequent or urgent need to urinate
- Need to urinate at night
- Cloudy urine
- Blood in the urine
- Foul or strong urine odour usually, first thing in the morning
The common cause of Honeymoon Cystitis is the introduction of E. coli bacteria into the Urethra. The bacteria begin to replicate through the possibility of vigorous & prolonged act of sex, leading to infection. Honeymoon Cystitis can also start when an unclean penis is inserted from the anus into the vagina.
Once the doctor identifies the sickness as Honeymoon Cystitis, they treat it with anti-biotic to clear up the infection. Abstention from sex is generally advised until the infection clears up. Drinking lots of fluids helps flush out the infection more quickly.
As it's said, prevention is better than cure…simple precautions can help ensure that Honeymoon Cystitis does not occur.
- Drink plenty of water (8 glasses recommended daily)
- Drink unsweetened cranberry juice or take concentrated cranberry supplements
- Avoid caffeine
- Urinate before and after sex
- Wear loose fitting clothes
- Keep the genitals clean with lukewarm water
- Use water based lubrication during sex.
See an urologist or gynaecologist for further treatment if the infection returns post-honeymoon. In the end, generally, aim for a healthy immune system by taking multi-vitamins.
