Black Is Back - With A Vengeance
|
A group of ladies, including Ravi's colleagues' wife, were jesting about her dress sense. In fact, Mrs. Sareen cattily said that Ravi had lost out on a major promotion because their boss believed that as a couple, her husband and she better conveyed the formal brand image of the hotel group. Mrs. Sareen - Neena noted - was wearing a very chic black sari and had obviously stepped straight out of a parlour into this party.
It was as though a bucket of cold water had been poured on Neena. She rushed back to the patio thinking furiously. Call it a wake-up jolt or whatever, but she realized why Ravi had pleaded so much with her. How could she have been so callous?
Be a black magic woman
Neena desperately desired to make amends. That week-end, she asked her mother-in-law to look after Nikhil and proposed a shopping trip for the two of them. 'For what?' asked Ravi, who was still dejected after loosing out to Vijay Sareen.
'It's a secret,' replied Neena. To cut a long story short, Neena and Ravi visited a few chic boutiques where Neena picked up - you guess it! - A quintessential black sari and a few other saris all aimed at making the right impression on Ravi's bosses.
He was stunned. But more was to follow. Neena had booked a private table at a leading formal restaurant. She told him to get ready when they reached home. When he saw her all decked up in her newly purchased black sari, he couldn't stop smiling.
On the way to dinner, she shared her experience with him and profusely apologized for her past behaviour. Neena had learnt the hard way that within every marriage there is a need to balance slovenly behaviour with a formal approach. For her, etiquette also meant understanding what her husband needed her to do. It's nice to wear jeans for an family day-out, but it's equally important to play the part when your husband (or wife) needs you to step up to the occasion, or just desires to see his wife (or husband) in a different avatar.
Like any other colour, black takes courage to action but can be a lot of fun! Why don't you add black to your relationship today?
- Okay - this is obvious! Go shopping and buy your wife a little black dress, or a black chiffon sari.
- Book a cosy table for two and enjoy a formal dinner date without your kids.
- A formal approach also means not taking things for granted. Go ahead - leave your wife a red rose on her car seat when she's least expecting it!
