Infatuation Can Lead To Disaster
Shades Of Love - Part II

"I apologize," he said to Shilpa, when Avantika monopolized Suresh at the poolside. "My wife is very taken up with meeting her favorite author."

Shilpa laughed, "Its okay, Suresh and I have a good laugh about her every night. We're both quite used to women being infatuated with him."

The words hit Karan hard. Firstly, he realized Avantika was making a fool of herself and secondly, the possibility of her behavior coming across as infatuation hadn't struck him so far. Now it did, and he didn't like it one bit. Why - this wouldn't stop when they were back in Mumbai. It would carry on, and on, and on.

'Wearing out' infatuation
He had to do something to put an end to it.

That night, Karan insisted that Avantika and he dine alone. He booked dinner at a romantic restaurant in the city. Avantika actually pouted when she heard they wouldn't be dining with Suresh (and Shilpa, though she'd hardly spoken to Shilpa in all of their stay!).

Karan chose to ignore her complaint, until they were safely ensconced in their private enclosure in the restaurant. Then, he gently, asked Avantika what she had liked best about their visit? Naturally, she gushed, "Oh! Meeting Suresh, he has such an understanding of women, it's marvelous."

Karan then said, "And do you know what Suresh liked best about this visit?" Avantika looked confused, then asked, "No, what?"

"Tonight, as its first he has to spend time with his wife," he replied, then added "But I think he'll get to spend more time with Shilpa tomorrow too."

Infatuation
Avantika's face fell. Over the next one hour, Karan slowly got her to realize the folly of her ways. By the end of their dinner, she felt so foolish she didn't want to see Suresh ever again.

In Karan and Avantika's case, Karan played the role of a mature husband to perfection. But a less patient guy might have freaked out at his wife's behavior and left her high and dry, or enjoyed the opportunity to indulge himself in other women.

Left uncorrected, that would undoubtedly wreck a marriage. In other words, infatuation can spell doom! So beware!
