Workplace romance
Love rocks, even beyond your desktop

Striking a right balance
One couple that learnt to strike the right balance between work and marriage is Kiran and Rinku, who actually play siblings (Om and Chaaya) in the popular sitcom 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki'.
" It is not strange that we play siblings because at the end of the day, it's just the work that counts. And we are hardcore professionals. We do our work and go home," informs Rinku. A classic case of 'opposites attract', Kiran loved her simplicity, her chilled out attitude and frank nature. Their basic nature complemented their relationship. If Kiran is known to be an introvert, Rinku is outspoken and friendly.
"Our courting days were fun. We used to meet on the sets, play our respective roles and then chat. During a shot where I had to address her as my sister, Rinku would giggle, making me angry but then I would laugh along too. We used to visit the sets even if either of us were not required for the day. It was exciting to be together throughout the day," proclaims a beaming Kiran.
She had to tie a rakhi on my wrist
"Not at all. As I said, it is just an act. There was a scene of 'Rakshabandhan' that did initially affect Rinku. Last year, in a rakhi episode, she had to tie a rakhi on my wrist, which she found very uncomfortable. It took her about two takes and she still struggled, to get it right. At last I made her understand that this was just an act and that she was a professional. That was the time when we had just got engaged. A year later, we became life partners and today again we had the 'rakhi' shot and Rinku was totally at ease," comments Kiran.
Hence one can say that in certain circumstances, workplace romances can be okay. In fact, they can be beneficial. This is because employees often channel romantic energy to work tasks by bringing enthusiasm and energy to their work. Workplace romances can increase productivity, motivation, job satisfaction and involvement.
Dancing through heart beats
Yet another person who came for work and took away love is Sudha Chandran. Seven years ago dancer cum actress Sudha Chandran fell in love with her associate director Ravi Dang, when they met on the sets of a film Sita- Salma- Suzie.
"I was acting in that film when I was introduced to him. It was during the making of the film that we fell in love and later decided to get married," says Sudha. "Though we were seeing a lot of each other, we didn't want any one to notice. But then it's tough to hide these things for too long. Our waiting for the other till wee hours, having lunch together, blushing when Ravi would compliment my acting were clear indications for others that we were in love," recalls Sudha.
"My parents opposed our marriage since he is a Punjabi and I am a Tamilian. Even though we tried in convincing them, they did not agree, so we decided to go ahead and get married. We got married at the Chiranagar Murugan Temple in Chembur", reminisces Sudha.
Describing her husband as the only man who has loved her for what she is, she goes on to mention that, "he has been very supportive and understanding. With Ravi, I discovered the joy of creating a safe, loving and healthy environment that helped us build our relationship. I have mastered the ways of gaining and sustaining the art of communication in a loving and positive manner. This has further enhanced our romantic relationship," adds Sudha.
When Suresh and Spandana accepted placements at the Co-operative Bank little did they know that this would be the place, which would foster their love for each other.
Long hours of work created an emotional bond between us
"I was working in the IT department and she was a clerk. We were colleagues for a year but never really spoke. For six months we were strangers and then got to know each other through group interaction. Long hours of work created an emotional bond between us. We later became good friends and fell in love after 10 months," cites Suresh.
We often went for movies during work hours
"Our courting days were interesting. We would wait for long hours for meeting each other after work. We often went for movies during work hours as this gave us the much-needed privacy. We took walks together, constantly exchanging ideas, thoughts, and feelings about our future. Moreover, at the time, nothing really mattered, as you're in love, all you think of is about one another. We never talked about the office, work or things related to it. We had our own topics to discuss, which hardly made us feel like colleagues. Besides, love overpowers any other thought," affirms Spandana.
