5 ways to surprise your bride on the wedding day

As the D-day approaches, both of you will likely be suffering from a near-nervous breakdown. Take the lead and make your sweetheart's day a little easier. Yep, you can do more than show up on time. Here are 5 ways to pleasantly surprise your bride on your big day.

1 Breakfast In Bed Breakfast In Bed: If you wake up in the same place, make her breakfast in bed. If not (which is more likely in an Indian scenario), arrange with her mom or sister or a close cousin, for her to have breakfast in bed. Tell them exactly what you want served; attach a handwritten note to the tray with a small gift and that would be the cherry on the cake. Trust us; this is one bride whose smile will outshine even the stars.

2 Sinful indulgence Sinful Indulgence: There's only one thing all our sins are related to... chocolates of course! What did you think?? If your fiance is like most brides she hasn't had a nibble of chocolate since the day you proposed. The thought of handling all that excess baggage (we refer to the guilt not the kilos) is quite daunting. Order her the richest, gooiest, most-sinful chocolate cake and have it delivered early in the day. Make sure you send her a message to let her know that life with you is going to be filled with such delicious moments.

3 Run for it Run For It: The days leading up to the ceremony can be suffocating for the bride. The hairdresser, her family, friends, your family and friends, the photographer, the makeup lady and everyone under the sun is tugging her in different directions. Your lady needs some time to herself. Pack her a picnic basket and whisk her away for a quiet lunch somewhere - just the two of you! If tradition doesn't allow you to see each other on the day of the wedding, try using the phone instead. Give her a call and sweet-talk her for at least half hour. Insist that she get away from the crowd - either in an empty room, or if desperate measures are required - in the bathroom! It will calm her down and the glow will show.

4 Parent Talk: This is going to be her last day living with her parents. Arrange for them to have some alone time together over a cup of coffee or tea. You will need to request her father and mother to make an effort to have this time with their daughter and this will not be easy. The day of the wedding can get chaotic for everyone and last minute goof-ups can really upset the apple cart. However, pull this off and she will be eternally grateful for your sensitive and thoughtful gesture.

5 Wedding gift Wedding Gift: Finally, all that's missing is a wedding gift from you. Give her a prequel-wedding album, charting your relationship from then till now. For a few more ideas here's what some grooms did:

Ashish: "Sona's really into massages. The more exotic, the happier she is. So on our wedding day, I arranged for her to get an hour-long Kerala massage at home! The masseuse arrived with all the gear and all she had to do was lie back and enjoy herself. The thanks I got later that night made it worth every penny I spent!"

Rahul: "My fiance adores flowers. So on our wedding day I sent her a bouquet of flowers every hour on the hour starting from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (which is when she was supposed to leave for the wedding venue). She loved the flowers so much, she actually got her hairdresser to use a bloom from each of the bouquets for her hair! She still has some of the blooms tucked away in her diary. It was the best idea I've ever had. A complete stroke of genius."

Sameer: "I got Ritu a charm bracelet as a wedding gift. What made it special was that I attached just a single charm to it - the symbol of eternity with a note saying, "From now to eternity". Now after 3 years I continue to buy her a charm for her bracelet every anniversary and she loves it. So far she's got a car, a baby bootie for the year our son was born and Mickey Mouse for our holiday to Disneyland. This year I'm hoping to gift her a house."
