Love: When The Fur Flies!
|
Vivek and Janvi were at the marriage counsellor's clinic as they were having serious problems. Apparently there were three instead of two in their marriage. ''Three is a crowd,'' Vivek said. Who was the third 'person'? Well not a human being but a four-legged furry cat.
Speaks a pet-hater...
Vivek's complaint to the marriage counsellor was, ''I should have taken it as a serious warning when our Valentine's Day romantic dinner was interrupted by her shouting, ''Cho.... chweet!'' And no, she wasn't talking about me.
She was admiring a stray puppy with a limp. We spent the entire night searching for a good vet. Dinner was cancelled and our date ended with her handing over the puppy to an animal shelter.''
"Within a month of our marriage, she found an abandoned kitten that she adopted without caring to consult me. I was already getting fed up with her watching Animal Planet when I wanted to watch cricket. Now there was a real animal under our roof to annoy me 24 X 7."
"When she would come home late from work, she would never ever call to ask me if I had eaten. Instead she would call me to remind me to feed the cat."
"She was determined not to part with the cat even when pregnant. I know how dangerous cats are to unborn babies. So when the cat died I was relieved. The amount of weeping she did over a dead cat still amazes me. Our neighbours must've thought it was I who passed away. And then... she actually went and buried it like a long lost relative!"
"My wife will adjust for her pet but not for me. I think she would be far better off being married to her pet. "
Speaks a pet-lover...
Janvi's version was, "I should have taken it as a serious warning when I realized that he feared that every stray dog would bite him."
"When I watched Animal Planet he would crack mean jokes which didn't amuse me. For instance when they were showing cute bunnies he asked me if I knew any good restaurant which served rabbit biriyani. He would hardly remember to feed the cat when I was away from home."
"Haven't pregnant women kept cats before? I can't understand what his problem is. He didn't help me a wee bit when my cat was ill. When my cat died not a word of consolation passed his lips. I buried my cat all alone in a cold wintry night."
Speaks someone who wants the two to reconcile...
Janvi should have consulted her husband before she adopted the kitten. She should have also taken care that her husband didn't feel neglected as she was so preoccupied with the cat. Her husband's concerns for a safe pregnancy with a cat in the house weren't unjustified. She should have checked for her immunity for toxoplasmosis before getting pregnant to ensure that her baby was safe.
Vivek maybe should have not cracked jokes about slaughtering animals. Despite not liking pets he could have tried to understand that after all, the pet meant a lot to his wife. Though it wasn't necessary for him to cry when the animal died he could have at least comforted his wife. He should have respected her decision to give the cat a decent burial.
Adjust over your differences regarding pets:
Adjustments are necessary in every marriage. Differences in attitudes over pets may be worked upon too.
- Pet haters can turn into pet lovers: People when exposed to a cute pet gradually start loving and caring for it – though not always. Also, if a partner has a serious pet allergy it would be unreasonable to ask him or her to adjust.
- Please don't ever demand that the pet has to be sold. Put it up for adoption instead. Selling a pet is highly unethical to a pet lover.
- Get over irrational pet phobias. Some people think that any animal will bite and every bite will lead to rabies. That's not true.
- Even your so-called rival pets like dogs and cats may be able to live under the same roof in harmony with proper training.
- Live and let live with pets. Heading for a divorce because of your differences over pets is highly irrational. Instead try to make a happy home with your dear spouse and sweet household pet. Believe me it works!
