7 Tips To Deal With An Old-fashioned Hubby

  • Take the bull by the horns: In Seema's husbands' opinion, his wife's place was at home. He extended this to not letting her deal with any service provider. So even when it came to paying their telephone, cell, electricity, and water bills, Suresh would want to do everything himself or have his office assistant help out. Now it happened that they were once over-billed for electricity usage.

Suresh needed to make special visits to the office, but was caught up with office work. Then he was suddenly asked to travel overseas to meet a client. Seema purposely didn't bring up the subject before he left. But while he was away, she sorted out the matter in a professional way, and also managed to get the water department to refund a long-pending amount they were due.

When Suresh saw what she'd done on his return, he couldn't crib (as their electricity connection would have been cut off by then!). Quite the contrary, Seema's intervention led him to realize that he'd been wrong to think that she (or any other woman, for that matter) couldn't handle business affairs. By the way, today the two are equal partners in a thriving business!

  • Make the most of loopholes: Sometimes a husband doesn't approve of something, but doesn't expressly say so, or doesn't put his foot down against the idea. In such cases, if you honestly have reason to believe that your actions can change his thinking without hurting him, work on the side towards your goal.

That's what Geeta did. She wanted to have a book of poetry published, but her husband didn't like the idea of her doing the rounds of publishers. As they were well-off, he preferred she publish it herself. "It seems you're begging for something," were his words. But vanity publishing was not Geeta's cup of tea. So she persisted and told him about her success only when she was ready to sign a contract with a leading publisher. It was only then that he woke up to his wife's talent and actually suggested he be her muse for her second book!
