House husbands
Men opt out of the boardrooms and into the kitchen

It is, of course, obvious that roles are learnt from early childhood role models namely the mother and the father. Revathi validates the same by saying, "My mom does always say, I might have been a better homemaker if she had brought me up. My father always wanted me to concentrate on studies and make a career. He wants me to be independent and be able to take care of self foremost. I am pretty good at fixing broken things. Make small repairs of electronic items. Well, I can cook as well, but not as well as mom or dad." Gender neutrality and roles as gender identity definitely get re-examined in a situation like this.
To give a thought to age-old delegation of roles one wonders if women are innately better able to handle home chores and children and men are better able to handle earning. In the past when the man had to go out to hunt, the work included physical power. But today it is all about pitting one's mental faculties for any work. Mukesh simplifies the divide by putting it this way, "I think many jobs outside involve logical and mathematical approaches while women are more endowed with lateral and creative thinking."
Taking it a step further, Prabeer Priyadarshee, 27, a mechanical engineer from Bangalore puts it more succinctly, "Men are at a distinct disadvantage in this area, given their built-in incapability to multi-task and generally have a less sharp memory. Another reason could be that men inherently crave adventure and change so a set routine of doing mundane chores every single day might not go down well with them."
While it is evident that society still takes such an option with a pinch of salt the fact that there are more men who view gender and gender inequalities above roles. These men do not define themselves with respect to the roles they play. More steps like these by more such liberated men will definitely help in neutralizing emphasis on gender roles. In fact, if nothing it will be as Revathi puts it, "essential for men's liberation. Women are so complete they are good homemakers and good career women, its time for men to match up to them, to be as complete as them."
And maybe lead to a gender-less world where human beings co-exist in peace and identities are not defined by superficial parts they play in the mechanics of everyday living.
