Top 4 Guilt Trips Wives Lay On Their Husbands

Top 4 Guilt Trips Wives Lay On Their Husbands Regardless of how great your marriage or relationship is, chances are that you've been guilted into doing things by your wife. By the very definition of the term, a 'guilt trip' is a form of subtle manipulation; subtle yes, but manipulation all the same.

However, guilt trips need not always be thought of as something negative. In fact, sometimes they can be a lot more effective (for the person doing the guilting), and a lot less exasperating (for the one being guilted) than nagging or outright fighting. The point is to understand the reason behind the guilt trips and handle them well.

Here's a look at the top 4 guilt trips wives generally lay on their husbands and what you can do about them.

Guilt trip #1: Hanging with the guys

You tell her you're going out with the guys and she says, "Fine, you go on and have fun with your friends while I stay here all by my lonely self / with the baby." She's not really telling you not to go, but is sure laying it on heavy! You do go but can't really enjoy yourself because the guilt is eating you up.

What to do: The first thing husbands need to understand is that your wife is not trying to be a controlling nag and doesn't HATE to see you have fun. It could be that you're spending a lot more quality time with your pals than with your wife, which is why she is feeling insecure in the marriage. She may be feeling like your friends take you away from her a lot and may even dislike them for that. So, instead of feeling irritated every time she lays this guilt trip on you, try and talk to her to find out what the real issue is and fix it.

Guilt trip #2: Siding with your mother

This is one guilt trip that men all over the world have to live with. Your wife and your mother have had some words between them. Now, when your mother asked for your opinion you did not stick up for your wife but sided with your mother instead. This prompted the sad face and the "your mother is more important to you and you love her more" guilt trip from the wife.

What to do: Never get involved in any issue between your wife and your mother unless you have all the facts and know both sides of the story. Even then, you should try and let them resolve their issues without siding one or the other. If you absolutely have to side with someone, then it should be your wife that you're sticking up for, unless she is horribly in the wrong.

And ladies, realize that it is very disturbing for a man to be put in the middle of his mother and his spouse. It is a no-win situation for him and he'll lose no matter what he does! He loves both of you but can't possibly keep you both happy - unless you do so. So instead of making him feel guilty for choosing sides, ask him why he responded the way he did. Imagine being in his shoes at that very minute and then tell him what you would have done.
