Celebrity liaisons in limelight

Stars shy away from media
Shahid Kapur Such undue publicity can be an immense pressure for actors with new-found celebrity status like Shahid Kapur. Reports of his affair with Kareena Kapoor have drawn a cloud over his talent as "every one is talking about it," he admits. Ironically and understandably, he refused to talk to ShaadiTimes about the celeb dating issue as he felt that, "it is splashed everywhere and I really want people to talk about my work now." The pressure is obvious.

Shahid is not alone. Actress Amisha Patel is full of complaints against the media. When asked why she would not speak to media about her personal affairs, she said, "I have never seen media writing anything good about celebrities. They always misquote or write stories that will help them sell their news. That is why I keep away from commenting about my personal life."

Different kind of limelight
It's not just the silver screen. The small screen stars go through the same pain, though of a lesser magnitude. Therefore, in an exclusive interview with ShaadiTimes, Kkusum star, Nausheen did speak about the man in her life but kept the name close to her heart.

Perhaps, it wouldn't be fair to blame the media for everything. Shabana Ansari, an entertainment writer with one of the leading media houses, says, "Media does get curious. Curiosity is something that comes naturally to us. But we know where to draw a line. Even the celebrities are curious to know who is dating whom. Gossip sells after all with everyone." But the million-dollar question is whether it is fair to sell at the cost of the privacy and personal affairs of the celebrity."

But the real issue is how far can and should the media delve into the personal lives of celebrities? Shouldn't the celebrities for their part stop riding piggyback on the media to get themselves noticed or talked about? What does a reader want and expect from the reporter? These are the uneasy questions with no certain answers.
