The post-wedding syndrome
|
The euphoria of courtship rarely resembles the reality of marriage. Is it possible to bridge the gap?
''Urmi darling, please don't wear that blue dress in the office.''
''Why? Everybody says I look good in that dress.''
''That exactly is the problem. You look a little too good in it. Every man in the office wanted to whistle in appreciation when you walked in today.''
''And what about you?''
''I wanted to strangle each and every one of them. Please, please for my sake, don't wear it.''
''Then what should I do with it, use it as a kitchen rag?''
"No darling, you can wear it when we go out."
"You mean there people won't look?"
"They would. But it's different...", Deep stammered and Urmi burst out laughing. Deep was the sweetest man she had ever come across.
The man had an old world charm about him that Urmi found so endearing. He was different from the ultra chic and so called hap crowd working in the leading advertising agency. He was a fabulous copywriter, one of the best in the business. But was unbelievably shy, when it came to interacting with others. He was single, not ready to mingle.
But Urmi decided to draw him out of his shell. Out he came and went straight into her arms. It was a love story that amazed the whole office. Everybody was happy when the lovers announced their wedding date. Of course the boss was a little sad too. He was going to loose his efficient and much trusted secretary. Urmi had decided to leave her job.
Actually it was Deep's decision. He didn't want a working wife. And Urmi understood that Deep was saying this out of love for her. "I am a man and it is my duty to take care of you. I am there to take care of all your needs. Just tell me what you want, and I would do my damnest to get it for you, I promise."
Urmi almost cried with happiness when her man said this. Never before had she ever felt so cherished, so protected, so loved. And it was not that she was giving up a great career. Being fulltime housewife was going to be much more fun than being an overworked, underpaid secretary to a whimsical man.
Deep also suspected that the old buzzard's intentions were not all that noble when it came to pretty girls in the office. Urmi laughed because her boss was anything but lecherous. Perhaps Deep was jealous of him, the way he was of everybody else, who looked at her.
