It's never too late!
|
" It is never too late to say, " I love you!" And when I wanted to say it at this age, I thought, "let me gift wrap my feelings!"
So Vraj Shah my friend gift-wrapped a set of diamond earrings and presented it to the light of his life, his lovely wife Manju.
One might say," so a husband bought jewellery for his wife, big deal eh?"
This is 'big deal' because for Manju this is the first piece of real diamond jewellery---- at the golden age of 60.
She wore it with great wonder and joy. And given a choice now would never take it off.
More than a pair of earrings it is a symbol of their love and a dream fulfilled.
Vraj looks at his wife fondly and says: "For years, I had this wish to buy diamonds for Manju. But you knew how expensive these stones are! Of course I had a decent job and a steady source of income... but priorities were different .New flat, children's education, their marriages, healthcare... Manju took care of everything within the limited budget. Like any middle class housewife, she had some gold jewellery, but diamonds were a distant dream!"
But the dream became a reality, the day Vraj retired from his job. He got a tidy sum in form of the provident fund, gratuity etc.
Normally at this stage, most of the retirees plan to make safe investments for the future. Vraj also did. But before that he had to do some thing more important. Buying diamonds for his wife!
Now they both glitter.Manju with her diamonds, and Vraj with pride and contentment.
So is it with Madhu. She too got her first diamond ring at the ripe age of sixty-two. A beautiful ring. Studded with not one but ten diamonds!
Her friends advise her not to wear it daily. According to them, such jewellery should be worn only on special occasions. But for Madhu and her husband everyday is special as life is so short and they have already travelled three fourths of the road. Now, no happiness small or big is worth delaying.
"These days whenever I see something that Madhu or I like, I just buy it. Because now I feel I have money, but not much time left. Waiting is one luxury we can't afford now,' says the husband.
And this couple never utters words like, "It's too late" or " it's no longer the age to enjoy."
Madhu says, 'True, we got all this at the twilight of our life. But we did get it and we are going to enjoy it!'
