Dress To Impress
|
- This isn't an occasion to think of trends, unless your to-be ma-in-law is a fashion designer! Most parents are not keen on the 'in' thing, especially when they're trying to determine if the girl their son has chosen to be his wife is a good choice. Again, this isn't the time to think sexy! Save that for when the two of you go out. Choose a modest outfit.
- Even if you have expensive tastes, go easy on designer wear as it can send out a pricey look. After all, you don't want your prospective in-laws thinking that the greater part of their son's income will be spent in buying your wardrobe! The trick is to look well-maintained, not high maintenance.
- Speaking of a well-maintained appearance, remember that hygiene is crucial to making a good first impression! Choose a subtle perfume, bathe well, wash your hair on the day or the night before, clean your ears, brush your teeth and a manicure the day before isn't a bad idea at all. Ensure that you've tried your hairstyle in advance - you don't want it coming undone during your meeting!
- Use make-up in moderation. This is a time to be open, not hide behind a mask! Just as your outfit should be simple, choose to accentuate either your lips or your eyes. Don't make it all shiny. In fact, if you're meeting for a meal, go for your eyes as this will last throughout the encounter.
This may seem like a lot of advice. Don't let it make you forget who you are! It's not as though you have to go in for a makeover. Just aim to match the way you look to people who may matter a lot in your life to come.
