All's well that ends well?
"Oh, she had her suspicions, alright," the girl conceded. "She even voiced her thoughts aloud. For a while she tried to keep a tab on papa's day-to-day activities. She would call him any time at the office, kept a close watch on his friends and acquaintances, and monitored his comings and goings. But at last she gave up."
"Got tired?"
"No. Got convinced that papa had really changed for the better. And that too thanks to her."
"What?"
"Yes. After all her speculations about papa's changed behaviour, she came to the conclusion that the yoga and meditation regime that papa took up six months back are doing the magic. And she was the one who initiated the process."
"I don't understand," I said.
"Let me tell you in short," the girl said and calmly recited the story.
"About seven months back papa developed a heart problem, you know that.."
"Hmm..."
"Naturally, mom was worried. And as a result became a bigger nag. You know how she was, to start with."
I knew. The lady in question was not known for her sweet temperament.
"Papa made it worse by not following the treatment prescribed by the doctor. And I don't blame him. How many medicines you can take and how long? And it was difficult for him to give up his love for rich food and smoking."
"Hmm..."
"Then somebody suggested yoga. Mom was immediately sold on it. Papa was reluctant in the beginning, but gave in when mom made it a major issue. She then went about finding a good teacher. My mom didn't want to join some class where there were dozens of students. She wanted someone who could give them proper and individual attention. When she found such a person, mom too decided to join. Both my parents started getting up early in the morning and going for Yoga sessions together."
"Yes, I saw them sometimes on my way to the gym," I said.
"In the beginning it went the way mom wanted it to. But after about a month, she was the one who failed to keep up with the new regime. She started missing out on the class giving one or another excuse. Then she stopped even that. Of course, she insisted on Papa continuing. In her words 'Papa was a heart patient and he needed it.' On the other hand, papa didn't need any pushing now. He had started enjoying the asanas and meditation. He thought his physical as well as mental health was improving. He even gave up smoking."
"So may be it is really yoga..," I suggested, trying to reason.
"Don't you understand?" the girl looked at me. "It's not just yoga. It's the teacher."
"Huh?"
