Its okay to miss this bus
Looking at the kind of cinema young directors are bringing out each Friday, it can be safely said that the Indian film industry's face is changing by the week. Small films with their unique subjects and treatment like
Khosla Ka Ghosla,
Pyaar ke side effects, and
Dor are the call of the day. Director Reema Kagti tries to be a part of this brigade but succeeds only partly.
Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. is about 6 newly married couples on a package honeymoon trip to Goa. Just like
Salaam-e-ishq tried to explore love stories of 6 couples,
Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd....tries to explore the sweet and sour experiences of newly married couples on their honeymoon trip. Unfortunately, just like
Salaam-e-ishq, Honeymoon too fails to deliver justice to any single story.
The film opens with six couples, Oscar Fernandez (Boman Irani) and Nahid (Shabana Azmi), Partho Sen (Kay Kay Menon) and Milly Sen (Raima Sen), Pinky (Amisha Patel) and Vicky (Karan Khanna), Madhu (Sandhya Mridul) and Bunty (Vikram Chatwal), Hitesh (Ranvir Shorey) and Shilpa (Dia Mirza), and Aspi (Abhay Deol) and Zara (Minissha Lamba), boarding a bus to Goa. The back-stories of these couples unfold through a radio show called
Pyaar ke lamhe.
Amongst the six stories, the ones that stand out are that of Shabana - Boman, Kay Kay- Raima, and Abhay - Minissha.
Nahid is left alone after her husband and two daughters die in a car accident... she attempts suicide only to be saved by her deceased husband's business partner, Oscar. On the other hand Oscar's wife committed suicide leaving him and their 2 children. Why? We don't know. Nahid and Oscar marry each other much against the wishes of Oscar's daughter. There are a few very charming moments between Oscar and Nahid.
Partho and Milly are battling the war of the sexes. Even though it's a love marriage, their mothers have sown a seed of one-upmanship between them.
Aspi and Zara make the cutest couple undoubtedly. Although theirs is an unbelievable fiction story of two super heroes, they share some very cute moments. Abhay and Minissha share a very good on screen chemistry.
Madhu is married to NRI Bunty. They met on the Internet and decided to marry. Bunty reveals on their Honeymoon that he is gay. Their story is left half-baked and it needed a better culmination.
Performance wise, Shabana, Boman, Kay- Kay, Raima and Sandhya Mridul are excellent. Abhay and Minissha are good. Others are strictly okay.
The biggest drawback of the film is the half-baked stories of each couple. No single story leaves you satisfied with the sense of completion. The film seriously misses the presence of a good screenplay to hold you tight. But thankfully, Anurag Kashyap's dialogues deliver humour and tight punches to keep you involved. Vishal - Shekhar's music is good. Reema Kagti as a director shows flair for new treatment of scenes but as a storyteller she will have to travel on a better bus next time.
On the whole,
Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. is an average trip and you may wait to catch it on a DVD without any regret.
