Money is the number one cause of arguments among married couples, yet surprisingly few address this issue. Now with both the partners being earning members, planning finances is a big responsibility.
It is imperative that couples discuss important issues, such as handling debt, buying a home, planning for kids and retirement, creating a financial safety net with insurance and emergency funds.
Shaaditimes spoke to couples to know how they handle this sensitive issue.
Vimala and Arokiaswami Arthur
Do you'll consult each other before taking any important financial decisions?
Only when a huge sum of money is involved. We don't feel the need to consult each other for small, day-to-day expenses.
Who manages the finances?
I manage the finances... the daily expense, the monthly budget and such decisions are taken by me.
Do you hold individual or joint bank accounts?
We have separate accounts
Have you planned for the future? How?
Yes, our future is secured. We have invested in movable property and some financial instruments, but not stocks.
Have you ever fought over money?
Yes, ofcourse we have. I think it's a part to staying together and understanding each other, and besides, small quarrels are a part of a married couple's life.
Arokiaswami is an Operations Manager while Vimala is a pre-primary school teacher.
