Sonali and Rajiv Maniar

Sonali and Rajiv Maniar Money is the number one cause of arguments among married couples, yet surprisingly few address this issue. Now with both the partners being earning members, planning finances is a big responsibility.

It is imperative that couples discuss important issues, such as handling debt, buying a home, planning for kids and retirement, creating a financial safety net with insurance and emergency funds.

Shaaditimes spoke to couples to know how they handle this sensitive issue.

Sonali and Rajiv Maniar

Do you consult each other before taking any important financial decisions?
My wife is a doctor and I am into investment management. As I advise people outside even at home it's always me who takes all the financial decisions.

Who manages the finances?
Both. Even when it come to buying household stuff or monthly groceries or shopping for ourselves, we do it together.

Do you hold individual or joint bank accounts?
Joint accounts.

Have you planned for the future? How?
We have invested in mutual funds. We believe in buying properties which is a very good mode of investment these days. People get confused between Life insurance policies and mutual funds. One should invest in schemes where you earn returns upto 6 to 7 per cent or more from the inflations to maintain your standard of living. Earning as much as the inflation does not make sense.

Have you ever fought over money?
No. May it be spending on a holiday or shopping we have never ever fought over money.

Rajiv is an investment advisor and Sonali is a doctor.
