Rajeev and Delnaaz Paul, TV actors

Rajeev and Delnaaz Paul Money is the number one cause of arguments among married couples, yet surprisingly few address this issue. Now with both the partners being earning members, planning finances is a big responsibility.

It is imperative that couples discuss important issues, such as handling debt, buying a home, planning for kids and retirement, creating a financial safety net with insurance and emergency funds.

Shaaditimes spoke to couples to know how they handle this sensitive issue.

Do you consult each other before taking any important financial decisions?
It's very important to consult each other before taking any monetary decision because it involves both of us and it's for our betterment.

Who manages the finances?
Rajeev: We have a very clear demarcation line - who's the leader and of what? So, it's Delnaaz who manages the daily household expenses in terms of food, groceries and other daily expenses. I take care of the investments and other major decisions. I don't interfere in the domestic expenses and similarly she knows that I'll take care of the savings and investments. We are very clear about that.

Do you hold individual or joint bank accounts?

Have you planned for the future? How?
Rajeev: Firstly, I think it's very important to have a house of your own which we have by God's grace. As far as investing is concerned I invest in mutual funds as the growth is really good. Shares are a bit too risky and also need a lot of reading and knowledge about the market trends. Real estates are also a good bet.

I also don't think that jewellery is a good investment because when you sell your jewellery you don't get the total value at which you had purchased it as the making charges are deducted. I think it's better to buy gold coins instead.

Apart from that, life insurance and Medi-claim is very important for every family. As medical facilities are way too expensive and you never know what happens in the future.

Have you ever fought over money?
No never. We have our usual tiffs and arguments, which every couple has and which is very essential for a healthy relationship.
