Money is the number one cause of arguments among married couples, yet surprisingly few address this issue. Now with both the partners being earning members, planning finances is a big responsibility.
It is imperative that couples discuss important issues, such as handling debt, buying a home, planning for kids and retirement, creating a financial safety net with insurance and emergency funds.

Do you consult each other before taking any important financial decisions?
Yes, it's very important for both of us to know what and where our earnings are heading. Everybody wants to have a secure future and invest in profitable ventures. After all it's our hard earned money.
We also discuss market trends when buying or investing, especially jewellery and stocks.
Who manages the finances?
Ashwin: Domestic expenditure like groceries bills and other payments, its Mahima who takes a call. I'm more into investing in stocks and mutual funds.
Do you hold individual or joint bank accounts?
Both
Have you planned for the future? How?
We have invested in policies like LIC and other insurance policies. Mutual funds are another safe bet for long-term investments. We've also invested in stocks and shares but that requires a detail study of the market trends.
Have you ever fought over money?
We've never had major disputes or arguments over money matters. However, we do have our normal spats like when the expenditure exceeds the limit or goes over-board, which I guess, is a common household phenomenon.
