Cleaning Up For Unexpected Guests - In 30 Minutes Or Less!

 You're on your way back home after a hectic day at work and your phone rings and a pal invites herself and family over to your house, in like the next half hour. What do you do?
Don't panic. Get your act together and clean up in less than 30!
We tell you how:
- Hide It: When you want to do a quick job, the best way is obviously to disguise your house. Bring out 3-4 pretty table covers and lay them over the over flowing laundry basket, carton full of junk and your grandma's old trunk!
Time Spent: 5 mins
- Find Secret Places: You don't have to look for one room to stash all those unread newspapers, bills and little knickknacks. Each room has little hiding areas such as almirahs, underneath sofas, chest of drawers, behind a biggish showpiece, etc. Just stuff all the junk there as quick as you can.
Bring out a few dustbin bags and gather mess into them. Throw into the balcony and pray it doesn't rain.
Time Spent: 5 mins
- Dust Visible Areas: Take a clean cloth and wipe surfaces of tables, chairs, vases where dust has collected. For glass-topped tables, quickly spray a little cleaning liquid and wipe the muck. Do visible areas only. It's not your mom who's visiting (and if it is - why bother? You'll never get it as clean as her!).
Time Spent: 10 mins
- Focus On The Living Room: You don't have to clean everything! Forget the kids' room and your bedroom. Focus on the living room where all your guests are going to spend their time. Straighten magazines, plump cushions and straighten tablecloths and curtains.
Time Spent: 5 mins
- Add Ons - Do As Many As You Can: You can't do everything so do as many of these as you can before the guests arrive.
- Change flowers in living room vase
- Put a bowl of fresh fruits on living room centre table
- Spray room freshener throughout the house
- Add fresh napkins to the bathroom
- Bring out the fancy bowls, plates and glasses for serving
- Freshen up your makeup and comb your hair (no time for change of clothes).
Time Spent: 5 mins
That's it. You're done! Now pick up the phone, order some food for your guests and serve instant coffee or packaged juices. Keep your conversation scintillating, the food hot and the drinks flowing and we guarantee you - nobody will even notice a little dirt here and there.
