Hearth Throb of Bhavana Balsaver
|
What made you buy this house?
I stay at Juhu, in a bungalow. I have 4 big and 10 small dogs. Three years back the only reason for me to buy this bungalow was to accommodate them all. That is why, instead of an apartment I opted for a bungalow. I also wanted a peaceful locality. My bungalow is near Juhu beach. I like open space around me.
Your home is English / ethnic
My house is English. My parents, my brother, my room and my dogs have ample space for themselves. My house has a wooden finish everywhere. I have dark wooden and light wooden antique furniture. My house feels open and spacious because I have limited but all the necessary furniture.
I believe in... Vaastu / Feng Shui
I don't believe in Vaastu or Feng Shui. I believe in tradition. Even traditions tell you where to sleep and where to cook. All these are basic things that we have been following for years now. We don't need Vaastu or Feng Shui for this. Everybody knows about the importance of east and west direction, and that your head should not be in the north when you sleep. You ultimately do what you want. Then why simply hire a Vaastu or Feng Shui fellow. They will make you shift your bedroom into the kitchen. I just prefer to follow the basic tradition.
Who did the interiors... A professional / Yourself
I did my house myself. I lost 5 kg when I was doing up my house because right from buying the house to wall colour, furniture, kitchen cabinet etc. was decided and bought by me. All my walls are white in colour from inside and off white from outside. Why I choose this colour is because it gives me a feeling of openness. The sharp contrast of dark wooden furniture and white walls gives a good feel. I got some kennels made in the garden for my dogs. I like greenery, so I take care of the garden myself.
One unusual feature of your home
My water tank was a useless area once. But now above the water tank I have put the railing and made it into a good sitting area. You get the best view of the ocean from there. You feel as if you are right in the middle of the sea. All our guests like to sit there and enjoy the ocean and the sunset.
The one house you would want to own
My own. My house is not just a house but also a home. I have put lot of effort in making it. So I would like to own my house only.
Most prized possession / artifact
My teddy bear. It sounds crazy, but it is the most prized possession for me. I had brought it when I was a toddler. It has turned from golden colour to brown now. I call him gum-boot and I cannot put a value to this.
My favourite corner
My bedroom window, it gives me the best of the views, full of greenery.
The nameplate on your door reads...
It reads 'Shubanghi' which is the name of our bungalow. And on one rusted wooden piece its written 'Balsaver'
Some tips
- Even if you hire an interior decorator try to get personally involved in the making of your house because it is your house and you want to make it a home.
- You know what you are more comfortable with, so put in your ideas.
- Don't buy stuff just because it is expensive. Buy stuff you would be comfortable with.
