Synonymous with Italian cuisine, pasta is among the most loved dishes across the world. Made from the flour of grains mixed with water and/or eggs, pasta is both nutritious as well as easy to cook. It is high in complex carbohydrates, which helps to give you energy.
Pasta is found in a variety of forms and shapes, ranging from the rather simple noodle-like Spaghetti to the delicate Ballerine. Some all time favourites include Penne, Farfalle, Fusilli, Lasagna, Ravioli, and Macaroni, not to mention the Alphabet Pasta favoured by children.
We bring you some mouth-watering pasta recipes.
Spaghetti with tomato sauce
Ingredients
4-5 tbsp olive oil
1 onion- chopped
1/2 cup celery- chopped
2 cloves garlic- chopped
2 cups chopped tomatoes
3 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp basil leaves
200 gms Spaghetti- boiled
2 tbsp black olives- sliced
3 tbsp grated cheese
Few basil sprigs for garnish
Salt to taste
Method
Cook Spaghetti in a pan of boiling salted water until 'al dente' (it should be tender but slightly firm to the bite). Drain the water. Put the oil in a pan to heat. Add the onion, celery, garlic to the oil, and cook until soft. Add tomatoes, tomato puree, 4 tbsp water, half the basil and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the sliced olives and the remaining chopped basil and pour over the cooked Spaghetti. Sprinkle with cheese, basil sprigs and serve immediately.
Ravioli with cream sauce
Ingredients
Ravioli pasta-1 packet or 15-20 pieces boiled
For the cream sauce
Cream- 2 cups
Butter- 2 tbsp
Flour- 2 tsp
Grated cheese- 2 tbsp
Salt and pepper to taste
Herbs- 2 tsp to taste.
Method
Heat butter in a pan, add flour and cook for a minute. Add cream and seasonings to taste along with the herbs. Add the boiled pasta and cook for another 2 minutes on a low flame. Serve hot in a pasta plate, and garnish with more grated cheese.
