Nectar Of The Gods
Panchaamrita Recipe
|
Pancha (Five) Amrita (Nectar) is used in all Hindu Pujas as an offering to the Gods and as 'prasad'. To make Panchaamrita you need:
Milk - 1 cup Kaccha or un-boiled milk
Curd - 1 cup fresh curd which has not been 'broken' or 'used'
Honey - To taste
Ghee - A small pinch is enough
Ganga Jal - 1 teaspoon is enough
Mix all the five items above in a silver bowl. Place a silver spoon in the bowl to offer to the Gods.
TIPS:
- All the items above must not be 'jootha' i.e. they must be fresh and no one should have touched their mouth to it. Even if you are opening a pack of curd or a packet of milk, ensure you do not open it with your mouth / teeth. Use a scissors or knife instead.
- It is customary to add a few Tulsi leaves to Panchaamrita. However, one must not pluck Tulsi leaves on Sunday and after sunset. So ensure you pluck the leaves the day before and store them in the refrigerator.
- When offering Panchaamrita to anyone, you must give 3 spoonfuls in the right palm. Panchaamrita is never offered just one spoonful.
