Check-mate - Cornered By A Credit Overload
|
You know of it from newspapers. Now hear it straight from the horses' mouth - presenting the story of someone who's currently passing through a credit overload.
You know the phrase - 'life comes full circle'? I used to wonder about its practical application, that is, how would you know when your life had come full circle?
My thinking ceased the day it happened to me. This may sound clichéd but for me, light dawned the day I recalled my grandfather's words...he would often balk at my always being in a hurry to get on with things, and experience life. He'd say, "Maya, I'm not in a hurry to see my grandchildren, so why are you in a hurry to grow up."
Cute and wise, but I didn't recognize its worth (then)!
The making of disaster
Now, of course, is a different story. Let me explain - I'm single, 27 (although that doesn't say a great deal), from a Tier-2 city, and relocated to Mumbai five years ago, starry-eyed and dreaming of the proverbial greener pastures.
Roughed it out initially - I worked nights at a BPO and visited ad agencies during the day, showcasing my portfolio. Two years on, lady luck shone on me. I was signed on for a few ads. Shooting would take place only occasionally and during the day, so I kept my night job.
After another eighteen months of gruelling hard work and fun - that came from living life on the fast track (remember my penchant for speed?) - I decided to buy a small flat for myself.
I took a loan - my BPO job salary easily covered its instalment. The process seemed so easy - now I think I should have taken that as a warning. Delighted to have a pad of my own, I splurged on the interiors. That was a year ago.
